Kicking off CSEd Week 2012.

The issue:

No other subject will open as many doors in the 21st Century as computer science, regardless of a student’s ultimate field of study or occupation, While computer science is often hard to find in elementary and secondary schools, in the last year some Chicago Public Schools have made some tremendous strides on this important issue, and the time is right to capture this effort and expand it by getting local leaders involved.

This exclusive gathering of computer science teachers, business leaders, and policy makers in Chicago will

. why business and industry leaders have recognized that expanding meaningful K-12 CS education is vital to their needs, as well as to Chicago’s and the nation’s economic future

. why the recent efforts of Chicago’s CTE teachers are having a national impact on the computer science education landscape and should become the model for how to deliver game-changing CS and IT education in large urban school districts

. why Chicago’s newly announced STEM schools are a step in the right direction, and how to ensure we make them successful

. what changes in local, state and federal education policy are needed to expand the work already underway
