Troops to Tech Careers – CompTIA

With the continuing return of American military service members from both Iraq and Afghanistan many organizations have given focus and prominence to easing the transition for our military and their families from service to employment. The Obama Administration has sought to bring focus to the needs of veterans and has challenged the private sector to make specific commitments in terms of education, training, credentialing, and employing of veterans.

To answer the challenge, CompTIA recently launched the Troops to Tech Careers (T2TC) program, initially a partnership with New Horizons Learning Centers, and later to extend to Community Colleges and others in 2012.  The program is designed to provide a pathway for returning veterans with an aptitude and interest in a technical IT career to receive the necessary training and credentialing, provided through CompTIA’s industry-recognized, vendor-neutral certifications, in order to obtain employment in the IT Industry.

Yet, while providing training, education and credentials are crucial, CompTIA is mindful that placement in the work force is the end goal.  To meet this goal, CompTIA is in the process of creating a Corporate Registry for the Troops to Tech Careers program, which would list organizations that commit to hiring trained and certified veterans.
