Working together to close the Digital Divide in Chicagoland
We are proud to announce the 2016 Chicagoland One For All campaign: a business and charitable effort to place laptops in the estimated 200,000 Chicagoland homes that do not have access to a computer.
These homes represent the “Digital Divide” in our city: the gap between those who have easy, regular access to information technology, and those who don’t. The Digital Divide is about more than just computers; it is a barrier to education, employment, health information, social engagement and more.
AITP Chicago, TechNexus, the Illinois Technology Foundation and several other partners are teaming up to coordinate an effort to eliminate the Digital Divide over the next 4 years and provide a laptop computer to every family in the ChicagoLand area.
How are we going to do this?
Chicagoland corporations retire thousands of used devices each year – devices that could be used to advance digital inclusion in our city.
It is a simple process: you provide a used-but-still-usable laptop. We recondition it and, through our not for profit partner organizations, distribute them to families in need.
One For All is a national campaign focused on providing over 18 million homes in the United States with a laptop computer. The campaign is administered by Sage Sustainable Electronics. As Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher, Sage will include fully licensed Microsoft Windows and Office software with all refurbished laptops.
What do we need?
- Laptops in “working condition”
- Intel Core i5 Processor or better
- 4 GB of RAM or better
- 160GB Hard Drive or better
- Battery and AC Adapter
There is no cost to you! We handle the logistics and the repair cost.
